Sealing glass for Kovar is specially formulated for matched hermetic glass-to-metal seals using Kovar alloy (4J29). Its coefficient of thermal expansion is carefully engineered to closely match that of Kovar, helping reduce residual stress in the glass during sealing and maintain reliable seal integrity through heating and cooling.

Kovar is a low-expansion iron-nickel-cobalt alloy suited for sealing assemblies that require controlled thermal expansion. Its coefficient of thermal expansion can be closely matched to that of suitable sealing glasses, making it well suited for matched hermetic glass-to-metal sealing.

Closely matched coefficients of thermal expansion allow the glass and Kovar to expand and contract at similar rates as temperature change. This helps reduce stress at the sealing interface and lowers the risk of cracking or seal failure.

Selection should consider factors such as coefficient of thermal expansion requirements, sealing temperature, component structure, dimensions and processing conditions. Sinopride provides engineering support for product selection.
